Martinez Lake attracts water sport enthusiasts, bird watchers, photographers as well as avid and occasional fishermen. This part of the river, which borders the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, boasts many backwater lakes, serene desert scenery and abundant waterfowl and wildlife.
